On Keeping a Schedule

On a good day, I am stunned by how perfect and amazing this switch to homeschooling is. But, to be honest, we've had to work through some hard days. I could say that we're working with the children on gaining more cooperative spirits, and that would be true on occasion. I could say that we are tweaking the schedule slightly and our methods, and that would be true. It would be easy to say we're changing and tweaking everything to center around me, my ideas and my vision, which is a slippery slope to attempt.

However, it is I who am being shaped and molded through this process just as much, if not more than these other components. It is I learning to have a cooperative spirit with my Heavenly Father.

I have this vision and these plans and yet I'm learning to rely far more heavily on the leading of the Holy Spirit for our day-to-day circumstances than on my tight schedule. Because this is an art. And no two days look alike, only offered and laid at the foot of the cross.

And in that offering, when I release my grip, all the learning falls into place, the schedule works and all of the beauty surfaces. Beauty through the art of relationship and teachable moments; beautiful sounds and scents that begin to fill the air. Hearts filling. Synapses firing. Suddenly this unexplainable, non-formulatic purpose comes alive.

When our school is secondary to Christ, He fulfills the agenda completely.

Yesterday, I am sure, was the hardest day I will ever encounter on this homeschool journey. Yes, I am sure of it. Because today was a break-through; a glimpse of purpose and vision meeting on this amazing journey that we have just begun.

I am sure this task is not for the faint of heart. No.

But it just might be for the meek and humble of spirit.

The things that keep me sane still remain quiet time before household rises, organization and a clean space to walk into...

  1. I'm thrilled for you that God has called you and your family to the journey of teaching your children at home! You are making precious, priceless memories along the way; and I can't think of anything more worthwhile to be doing! :)

It was fun to spot some of my favorites on your shelves and desk. I'm a big fan of Sonlight. :)

Blessings to you and your children as you learn - together! :)

  3. Theresa, amazing job. I appreciate your candor and acknowledgement that the day can be unpredictable, kids can be fickle, and lessons we think are simple can be an intricate labyrinth in a child's mind. Flexibility is key, light bulbs will ignite on their own time and your kids' will truly shine if you keep plugging away. Incredible mom as always, good job my friend. -Joleen
